Bangladesh opened its 6th Mission in India in the Southern Indian State of Tamil Nadu, which is the junction of Bay of Bengal in the east, the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Strait to the south-east, and the Indian Ocean in the south. Tamil Nadu is the 10th largest Indian state by area and the 6th largest by population.
Bangladesh Deputy High Commission started functioning officially in Chennai on 08th July 2021. The Mission has consular jurisdiction over the States of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Union Territories of Puducherry, Daman & Diu.
Bangladesh, India relations are multifaceted and deep rooted in shared history, geographical proximity and commonality in their cultures. The emotional bond stemming from the invaluable contribution of the Government and the people of India towards Bangladesh’s War of Liberation remain a dominant factor in the country’s political, cultural and social wave. Economically and commercially, the two countries are becoming increasingly interlinked and interdependent. Among all its neighbours, India has the largest land boundary with Bangladesh. There is an undisputed recognition on both sides that the destinies of the two neighbouring countries are inescapably intertwined.
Chennai, famously known as the ‘Medical Capital’ of India, attracts people from all parts of the planets. A good number of people visit Chennai for availing the ‘state of the art’ medical facilities available here. Currently the other South Indian States also attracting the patients from Bangladesh. Besides, all the States and Union Territories under the Mission’s jurisdiction has rich culture and heritage which attracts a lot of tourists from Bangladesh. On the other hand, the growing service sector and industrial sector of Bangladesh attracts skilled workforce from India, particularly from the Southern part of India. Moreover, Businessmen from this side are also showing keen interest in investing in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh enjoys a unique strategic location as a land bridge between South and Southeast Asia, and her coasts offer great opportunities for the development of deep seaports in the Bay of Bengal for the benefit of the entire region. Bangladesh also offers huge skilled and semiskilled workforce for the development of joint venture projects. Given our vast resources and potentials, Bangladesh believes that the countries of this entire region can move and grow together even faster for the common benefit of our people.
